Cloud Engineer

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Freelance Cloud Engineer to support the design, implementation, and optimisation of cloud-based platforms for a large-scale enterprise environment in Rotterdam. The engineer will work closely with DevOps teams, architects, and application teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable cloud solutions. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure using best practices Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation Support cloud migrations from on-premise to cloud environments Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise cloud platforms for performance, cost, and security Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve CI/CD pipelines Ensure compliance with security, governance, and operational standards Participate in architectural discussions and technical decision-making Provide documentation and knowledge transfer where required Required Skills & Experience Strong hands-on experience as a Cloud Engineer Proven expertise in at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) Strong knowledge of networking, security, and identity in cloud environments Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams Nice to Have Multi-cloud experience DevOps tooling experience (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) Monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud-native monitoring) Cloud certifications (Azure/AWS/GCP) Experience in enterprise or regulated environments Language English: Professional working proficiency Dutch is a plus but not required
