Scientific Writer/Editor - ON-CALL

We are seeking an experienced Medical Writer/Editor to support high-visibility federal health communications initiatives. This role focuses on developing, editing, and maintaining evidence-based health content for public and professional audiences, translating complex scientific information into clear, accessible formats aligned with federal plain language and health literacy standards.Key ResponsibilitiesResearch, write, edit, and update health-related content for web and print formatsTranslate complex medical and scientific information into plain languageDevelop and edit fact sheets and educational materials based on scientific evidenceEnsure alignment with federal plain language and accessibility guidelinesCollaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholdersPerform quality control reviews for accuracy and consistencySupport web content updates using content management systems (CMS)Apply web-writing best practices including SEO and scannabilitySupport recurring content review cyclesDevelop meeting summaries and synthesis documents as needed.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred)At least 3 years of experience writing and editing medical or scientific contentExperience writing for public and/or professional audiencesStrong understanding of plain language and health literacy principlesExcellent writing, editing, and proofreading skillsAbility to synthesize complex scientific materialAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting federal health agenciesFamiliarity with biomedical or integrative health topicsExperience developing content for multiple audience typesExperience with CMS platformsBilingual capabilities (e.g., Spanish)Experience working with multidisciplinary teamsWorking at ICFICF is a global advisory and technology services provider, but we’re not your typical consultants.
