If you thrive at the intersection of rigorous science and real-world product impact, we want to hear from you.DescriptionAs a Battery Reliability Engineer, you will be a critical voice in the product development lifecycle - identifying high-risk failure modes early and driving design teams toward robust, reliable solutions before they reach battery production. You will pioneer new stress conditions grounded in physics-of-failure principles and authentic use-case modeling, then translate those insights into the equipment infrastructure and specifications needed to validate product reliability at scale.Responsibilities:Identify potential failure modes and prevention opportunities from design and process control standpoints through in depth FMEAEngage directly with battery suppliers to ensure that reliability testings are executed with high standardsWorking with the cross functional team to deliver sharp failure analysis, constructing clear design guidance, and connecting root cause findings to actionable engineering directionBuild trusted relationships across disciplines, communicate with precision, and operate with both scientific rigor and product intuitionPreferred QualificationsM.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline5+ years of engineering experience in reliability, failure analysis, or related fieldsWorking knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion battery technologyExperience with statistical analysis platforms such as JMP or Weibull++Hands-on experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability prediction modelingProficiency with failure analysis and materials characterization techniques - including microscopy and spectroscopy - and the ability to leverage these tools to establish definitive root cause conclusionsA collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with a strong record of effective cross-functional partnershipMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field) with 3+ years of relevant industry experienceStrong foundational knowledge of the physics governing material and device behavior - spanning mechanical, electrical, and chemical domainsDemonstrated hands-on laboratory experience with a track record of systematically uncovering failure root causesProficiency in statistical data analysis, paired with the ability to distill complex findings into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional audiencesProven ability to synthesize data from multiple sources to identify root cause and champion corrective actionAbility to travel internationally without restriction (up to 10%)Pay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $258,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
