Director of Engineering

This is a high-impact leadership role, and we're looking to connect with exceptional engineering talent who have built and scaled real-world GenAI products. If you've worked on: LLM-powered Chatbots (RAG, LangChain, OpenAI APIs) GenAI-based personalization/recommendation systems Copilot-like productivity tools using GenAI Voice or multimodal AI applications End to end engineering delivery for B2C Consumer Technology Products Key Responsibilities: Assess organizational needs and build a comprehensive strategy for AI product and engineering for the next 2-3 years. Lead multiple engineering pods building GenAI-powered applications at scale. Lead a team of engineers to architect and deliver LLM-based products including chatbots, copilots, and voice AI. Ensure the reliability, stability, and resilience of all AI related engineering operations. This involves establishing and maintaining a robust technology operations framework that guarantees high system availability, performance; and cyber-security across all platforms to ensure business continuity. Work with Data Science/ML team to drive R& D around prompt tuning, fine-tuning, and vector retrieval systems. Stay updated with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance DT's AI technical capabilities. Collaborate with applied ML, DevOps, and data engineering to deliver GenAI platforms. Champion engineering excellence, code quality, observability, and documentation. Lead and inspire a large team of engineers, providing strategic guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Mentor engineering managers and senior ICs to build a strong AI capability within the organization. Oversee the implementation of standardized operational processes, proactive monitoring systems, and automated incident management capabilities to detect and resolve issues before they impact the business. Partner with product and design to define technical direction and roadmap for AI products. Implement frameworks for privacy, fairness, hallucination control, and safety. Represent DT's AI function externally, building and maintaining relationships with partners, customers, and industry leaders. Required Qualifications: 14+ years of experience in engineering, including 3+ years in GenAI Proven track record of building and shipping GenAI products in production Deep experience with LLMs (GPT, Claude, LLaMA), LangChain, Pinecone, OpenAI APIs Understanding of RAG pipelines, vector databases, embeddings, and prompt design Scaled platforms from 01 and 1100 with high reliability and impact Hands-on approach to solving technical problems and mentoring technical leaders Software development experience on large scale, high-volume sites, web applications or mobile applications Directly managed team of highly competent developers in fast paced work environment, Experience in building, leading & managing large multi-engineer projects and mentoring top-notch engineers. Experience in hiring and nurturing teams to become a top-notch high performing and motivated engineering Strong collaboration and communication skills; experience with cross-functional and cross-country teams and leadership Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with multi-modal GenAI (text + voice/image/video) Contributions to open-source AI/LLM tools or participation in GenAI communities Experience in driving strategy and execution in a fast-paced, product-led environment Prior work in domains like telecom, e-commerce, SaaS, or consumer tech
