Position Title: Policy Associate, Fusion PolicyReports to: Global Director, Fusion EnergyLocation: Remote, flexible, must be able to work East Coast hoursType: Full-time, one year, with the possibility of a one-year extensionABOUT CATF:Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of experts and advocates along with a global network of subject matter experts and partners put this research into action by designing and advancing policies that drive toward zero emissions.ROLE:The Policy Associate, Fusion Policy, will support CATF’s work to advance fusion energy policy primarily across U.S. federal, U.S. state, and European contexts. This role focuses on contributing to research, policy development, and advocacy execution while working closely with senior staff and cross-functional teams.The Associate will help translate CATF’s fusion policy thought leadership into actionable advocacy, including engagement with policymakers and coordination with CATF’s U.S. and European advocacy teams. While primarily a support and execution role, the position offers opportunities to take the lead on select external-facing work, such as developing policy outputs and representing CATF in meetings or forums.Key Functions and ResponsibilitiesResearch and AnalysisSupport development of fusion policy positions, reports, and roadmaps across U.S. federal, state, and European contextsConduct research on policy frameworks, commercialization pathways, and public funding mechanismsTranslate technical and programmatic insights into clear, policy-relevant analysisAdvocacy and Policy EngagementSupport engagement with federal, state, and European policymakers, including relevant government agencies and stakeholdersContribute to advocacy efforts advancing key priorities such as appropriations, tax incentives, and regulatory frameworks for fusion energyPrepare materials for external meetings, briefings, and stakeholder engagementRepresent CATF in external meetings or forums, as appropriateCross-Regional CoordinationSupport coordination across CATF’s U.S. Federal, U.S. State, and European advocacy teams to align priorities and executionCollaborate with internal teams, including legal and program staff, to integrate policy and regulatory considerationsContribute to alignment across Fusion Program priorities and workstreamsStrategy DevelopmentContribute to the development and execution of fusion policy advocacy strategiesTrack policy developments and identify emerging opportunitiesSupport rapid-response analysis for evolving policy discussionsCommunications and External EngagementDraft policy briefs, reports, blog posts, and other written outputsSupport stakeholder engagement and relationship managementContribute to external communications and thought leadershipOperational SupportProvide day-to-day coordination support across fusion policy activitiesAssist with planning for events, convenings, and stakeholder engagementSupport broader Fusion Program priorities related to policy workSupport the Global director of the Fusion Program in aspects related to the policy workSkills and QualificationsEducation / BackgroundBachelor’s degree required3+ years of professional experience in energy, climate, technology, or public policy (advanced degree may count toward experience)SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work across regions and policy contexts (U.S. and Europe)Excellent organizational and project management skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsCollaborative and team-oriented approachExperienceExperience in energy or climate policy, with exposure to regulatory or legislative processesExperience conducting policy research and writing for advocacy purposesExperience engaging with stakeholders across government, industry, or civil societyBehavioralSelf-starter who takes initiative and follows throughStrong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workComfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentInterest in advancing CATF’s mission and clean energy innovationCOMPENSATION AND LOCATIONThis is a full-time, remote position, with location flexible. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and an annual salary range of $85,000 – $106,000, dependent on skills and experience.For candidates outside the U.S., compensation will be determined based on local market benchmarks and cost-of-living considerations.
